I would agree with you that it is a rivalry worth preserving


if nothing else it gives the media 1 less excuse to give the SEC another piece of flair. However, I do wonder what the ACC would do if it ends up boxing itself into a corner where it has to decide whether it wants to preserve UNC vs. UVA or important instate games (i.e. Duke vs. UNC, UNC vs. NC State, or UVA vs. VT) as annual conference games. If the ACC decides to go with some sort of pod method or even multiple divisions (assuming the bylaws are changed to include a semi-final round before the CCG), then the ACC could find itself in that position.
